Mater Dei had the ball and a 13-play drive going on Oct. 2. Then Kingston Jimmerson got home.
The Santa Margarita sophomore made three tackles on that series, one of them a sack. The drive stalled, and the Monarchs missed a 32-yard field goal wide right with 11:28 left. On Mater Dei’s next possession, Jimmerson sacked the quarterback on first down and forced a timeout. Santa Margarita won 14-7 and moved to 6-0.
Two weeks later, the Eagles hosted St. John Bosco in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. One Bosco drive ended with Jimmerson on top of the quarterback. The Braves managed one first down in the entire second half.
He’s 99 on the jersey and 2029 on the recruiting board. He’s also the 300+ Trenches cover player.

Santa Margarita sophomore Kingston “KJ” Jimmerson is the latest 300+ Trenches cover feature. No. 99, on the cover of 300+ Trenches magazine.
The Offer Sheet
Most sophomores are still waiting on their first offer. Jimmerson has six:
USC
UCLA
Penn State
Arizona State
Arizona
San Diego State
UCLA’s offer came at the University of Redlands camp on June 8, after a camp performance that put him face to face with Bruins defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa. Penn State reached across the country for a kid who hadn’t started his sophomore season yet. Rivals put him in its initial 2029 Rivals100. When SI listed California’s defensive linemen to watch this fall, it called him one of the top sophomore D-linemen in the country.
Six offers before his 16th birthday would be a big deal anywhere. In Southern California’s 2029 class, where the talent runs deep at every position, it means something more. College staffs have already watched the tape and decided they can’t wait.
He Saves His Best for the Biggest Stages
Look at who he’s done his damage against.
As a freshman, Jimmerson was on the field for the CIF Southern Section Open Division title game against Corona Centennial. Santa Margarita went on to win the program’s first CIF State Open Division championship and finished 11-3.
This season opened with a rematch against Centennial, and the Eagles escaped 21-20. Jimmerson had a big sack of the Centennial quarterback in that game. Then came Mater Dei and Bosco.
That’s three national powers, and he made plays in all three games.
Some players pile up numbers against teams that can’t block them. Jimmerson’s highlights come against offensive lines full of future Power Four players, and that’s the film college coaches trust.
The Body Type
The 300+ Trenches cover lists him at 6-2 and 270 pounds. Rivals has him at 6-0.5 and 275. Either way, he’s a sophomore built like a college junior.
His position labels matter too. Santa Margarita’s game recaps call him a defensive end. Rivals lists him as a defensive lineman. Other recruiting coverage has called him an edge. When a 270-pound player gets labeled all three ways, he can line up anywhere on the front and still win.
At the edge, he gives up a few inches to the tackles across from him. That isn’t a problem. The lower man wins in the trenches, and Jimmerson plays like he already knows it.
Rose Bowl Homework
Last Saturday, Jimmerson was at the Rose Bowl for UCLA’s home game. He told Rivals he spent his time watching the Bruins’ defensive line, and that it made him think about “how I could fit in there.”
That’s a sophomore studying the film, not just watching the game.
My Call
Here it is, plainly: KJ Jimmerson will be a top-25 national prospect in the 2029 class before he plays a down as a junior.
The offers say coaches agree. The sacks against Mater Dei, Bosco and Centennial say the tape agrees. The only thing that hasn’t caught up yet is the ranking.
Santa Margarita closes the regular season at Orange Lutheran on Oct. 30. Watch No. 99, and count how many times the offense has to slide its protection toward him.
